Biokinetics is a final phase rehabilitation profession that uses individualised exercise therapy and movement-based treatment to improve physical function, strength, endurance, and overall quality of life. It focuses on restoring and enhancing movement through scientifically prescribed exercise.

The key difference from physiotherapy is the primary treatment approach:

  • Physiotherapy often focuses on pain relief, acute injury management, and early-stage rehabilitation (such as manual therapy, electrotherapy, and acute recovery care).
  • Biokinetics focuses on the final stage of rehabilitation, using structured exercise to restore full function, improve long-term strength, prevent re-injury, and support chronic condition management.

Yes, biokinetics can help manage chronic pain conditions.

Rehabilitation programs often include joint stability and strengthening exercises that help support the joints, improve movement, and reduce strain on surrounding structures. Exercise therapy is also well known for assisting with pain management, improving function, and enhancing overall quality of life.

Yes, we can assist both before and after surgery.

Rehabilitation completed before surgery, often referred to as prehabilitation, has been shown to improve strength, mobility, and overall recovery outcomes following surgery.

Post-operative rehabilitation focuses on restoring movement, improving strength and function, reducing pain, and supporting long-term recovery to help individuals return to daily activities safely and confidently.

Rehabilitation is highly individualised, and treatment duration may vary depending on the condition, severity, goals, and each person’s response to treatment. On average, standardised rehabilitation programs typically range between 8–10 weeks. However, some individuals may require shorter or longer treatment periods depending on their progress and specific rehabilitation needs.

We assist individuals suffering from neurological conditions, chronic conditions, arthritis, long term orthopaedic injuries, joint replacements, and general health and wellness.

Each treatment session is 30 minutes in duration.

Yes, we do offer home treatment sessions for individuals who may struggle to travel to our practice. Home-based sessions are available within a 20 km radius of our office. Please note that an additional travel fee will apply depending on your location.

Yes, Biokinetics is a recognised healthcare profession, which means claims may be submitted to medical aid. Our services are charged within medical aid rates; however, reimbursement is dependent on your specific medical aid plan and benefits, and cannot be guaranteed.

We recommend that patients confirm available benefits directly with their medical aid provider prior to commencing treatment.
