Hello! Welcome to Reignite Health. My name is Bokamoso (Bokz) Mthimkulu and I am the founder and owner of Reignite Health. I’m so happy to have you visiting my website. I wish to tell you all about Reignite Health, what our values are and what we wish to help you achieve in your health journey. I will also tell you more about the services that we offer and how we deliver our services.
Let me start by telling you more about how Reignite Health was formed, why it was formed and what our main goal is.
In 2019, I completed my honours degree at WITS University. I had studied a Bachelor of Health Sciences (honours) in Biokinetics. During my studies I had the opportunity to learn more about different conditions and how they treat the body, how exercise can help you improve your lifestyle, how exercise can improve the management of chronic conditions, rehabilitate injuries, help people diagnosed with neurological conditions be more included in society as well as to get them to do activities that they weren’t able to do before because of the condition, how exercise helps people to remain physically independent for as long as their body allows, making sure that children are growing strong, and so forth. I was so grateful to learn all of this and then in 2020 I was given the opportunity to practice everything that I was taught in the form of an internship. I quickly realised the beauty of Biokinetics in improving the quality of life of others. I realised that I enjoyed helping people become better versions of themselves. I want to give back by helping more people realise that they are valued, they are included, and they can be independent by taking control of their health to better their life and help them realise that their health is their priority, not someone else’s. This is what this company is all about. Reignite Health is all about giving you the opportunity to be “born again” from a health perspective. To ignite that spark again in your life. In November 2021, I opened my company and the journey began. Soon after practicing as just a Biokineticist, I realised that there’s more to health than just Biokinetics, there’s more to being healthy than just working on the physical body and then I decided to add more parts to the company that makes sure that you are treated as a holistic person. That is the mind, the body and the soul. I decided to then improve my knowledge and took it upon myself to understand the role of the brain (the nervous system) in communicating with the body, the role of food in keeping the body healthy and the role of massage in helping the body function optimally. The goal of this company is to guide you, support you, empower you, and help you use exercise, food, massage, meditation, your environment, medical doctors and other allied health professionals as part of your holistic health regime.
Now let’s look more into the team and our services.
My team currently consists of just me and then I do refer on to other healthcare professionals should the need arise. So, a little bit more about me, on more relaxed note, I am in my twenties trying to live life, reach my goals, and understand what it means to be an adult which I kind of thought I knew until I started working full time. I am a kind and loving person and want to give back to the world and make sure that everyone is happy and healthy no matter what situation they are going through. I have lived in Johannesburg all my life and I’m ready to travel the world and touch more lives worldwide. I love living a healthy lifestyle and keeping fit. My favourite sport is volleyball and I used to run in school. I have two cute little fur babies named Blue and Dexter. They can be seen on the about page. I have loved the colour blue all my life, but I am starting to love green more and that is the colour that represents my company. To me, this colour symbolizes rebirth in my life. I love a good novel just as much as I do enjoy binge watching series or movies on Netflix. I’m always trying to find activities outdoors and hiking is one that I’ve come to enjoy. I have a special interest in neurological rehabilitation, chronic disease management and geriatric care. I also do enjoy working with special needs adults and children
Now let’s look into the services we offer in more detail, starting with Biokinetics therapy.
Biokinetics is the healthcare profession that uses exercises that have been scientifically tested and approved to treat injuries, chronic conditions, and neurological conditions. A Biokineticist is the person who you would see that will prescribe you these exercises to treat and manage the above conditions. They also provide a safe space for you to exercise and challenge yourself to heal your body. Benefits of Biokinetics include increased lung and heart function, improvements in your cognition and memory, decreases in depression and anxiety symptoms, increase in muscle strength and flexibility, etc. The services we offer at Reignite Health include neurorehabilitation. This is exercise therapy for persons diagnosed with a neurological condition such as Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, ADHD, ASD, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke and so forth. We also do exercise therapy for persons diagnosed with an autoimmune disease or chronic condition such as Lupus, Type 1 and 2 Diabetes, Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure, Obesity, and lung diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Asthma. We also work with the elderly making sure that they are healthy and strong and try to prevent the early onset of lifestyle diseases. Lastly, we offer orthopaedic rehabilitation which focuses on exercise therapy for injuries, postural imbalances, and muscle strengthening. In the first appointment, we will go through a full history of you understanding the reason for your visit, any medical history, family history, and lifestyle habits. We will then check your blood pressure, your height and your weight, blood glucose (sugar) levels, cholesterol levels, and body fat percentage. We will then have a look at your posture and how you walk. Lastly, specific tests will be done based on the reason for visiting us and our findings from the postural assessment and the walking assessment. In the next appointment, you will be given an assessment report and a home exercise program that you can start immediately. Follow up sessions will then commence either once, twice or three times a week, depending on how often it is recommended that you see us, where we will work towards improving your strength, quality of life and rehabilitating the injury. After a minimum of eight weeks, a reassessment will be done to track your progress and see if there’s anything that we can chop and change to improve your health.
Our next service offering is Health Mentorship Sessions. This service follows our philosophy that “everyone has the ability to be in control of their own health.” This is where you will be given the opportunity to empower yourself while receiving guidance and support from us. The benefits of these Mentorship sessions include an increased awareness of yourself, increased self-trust, improvements in your confidence, improvements in self-discipline and forming positive habits for yourself. It will also help you be more productive during the day and it will increase your knowledge. Sessions will take place weekly either virtually or in-person. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you have, we can then research and look up things that concern you from a health perspective, look at all the medication you’re on, understand them, and empower you to start asking your doctors or people around you why they are prescribing you this medication, etc.. These Mentorship sessions are to make sure that you are confident to ask yourself why you are doing this or taking that specific medication. The first appointment will be done virtually where we will look at where you are in your health journey and see how we can improve your health. Then follow up sessions will take place virtually or in-person.
The last service offering is Deep Tissue Massage (Sports Massage Therapy). This is a type of massage that works to treat deep muscle aches and pains by releasing trigger points/knots. Knots are usually caused by injuries, postural imbalances and tight muscles. Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage include increased fluid circulation in the body, relaxation of the body, decreases in stress, anxiety, and depression, it also works on separating muscles and connective tissues that could be causing tightness and pain, improves your energy levels as well allows for a faster recovery after events or exercises sessions. Services include recovery and maintenance massage. These types of massage will take place after strenuous or stressful activities to help you recover quickly from the activity and prevent injury. Next is remedial massage. This massage therapy is used to treat painful areas and possible imbalances/compensations before it becomes an injury. Lastly, rehabilitative massage works on healing the body after an injury has been obtained. Sessions will commence by having an initial appointment where we will go through a simple history and questions on your lifestyle habits. We will also assess your posture to check for any imbalances that may be linked to the pain and then we will also massage the area causing pain. Follow up appointments will happen once, twice, or three times a week either 30 minutes, an hour, or an hour and a half to flush the body of toxins, relieve pain, prevent injury and work on that current painful area.
On our website you will be able to find blogs, and video versions of the blogs. We will post information on different injuries, ways optimise working conditions, ways to do exercises, and so forth. Our goal is to keep you educated, updated, and to improve your knowledge in every way we possibly can.
Feel free to contact us if you would like to book an appointment or ask any questions. You can also book an appointment online; we will then contact you to find out a little bit more about how we can help you in that initial appointment.
